What caused the pivot in TSLA?

There has already been commentary concerning the massive short dated (one week duration) options activity in TSLA that has reliably caused prices to rise despite fundamentals (the gamma squeeze). I am tempted to blame a certain large trader, which may be unfair, for this options activity. But I have no data, only supposition, and in any event they are more than capable of blowing themselves up without commentary from me.

Stepping back a bit I was curious as to what sort of catalyst could possibly cause TSLA to pivot on May 18th 2021 and from there rise 48% to today. Oddly, the only thing I could find in my notes from that time was a 13F filing concerning Michael Burry’s massive short position in TSLA.

So, is Michael Burry being Bill Hwanged? This is a serious question as a large trader could “learn” from GOTU or DISCA and try to replicate the squeeze. Unfortunately, the verb “SECed” is now well understood, and not in a positive way, as it is applied to the NHTSA, FAA and other light touch regulators.

And, no, TSLA is not rising due to massive loss in China market share, the FSD fiasco (and the possible waking up of what used to be US regulators), the impressive wave of superior competition, the inaction regarding safety recalls or the shutting out of the India market to Chinese made TSLA vehicles. Right now it is a head scratcher.

We have seen how easy it is to disconnect stocks from their fundamental developments previously

A recent FSD video raises the possibility of a new revenue stream from a very eager customer base: the repair costs caused by FSD accidents (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOpUqZtSRq4). As an outsider I am startled by how the selected are so well trained by TSLA to the point they make sure to praise TSLA while happily incurring this additional cost. This incremental revenue is no doubt worth an increase of $250B in market cap.
